One of the first things we did there was look around M&M World. That was pretty exciting. Imagine a three story wall of M&Ms. I almost went into a diabetic coma just looking at everything, but the store was quite impressive.
After that we picked up a couple of rain ponchos (it was still misty, sprinkely, and a bit chilly) and bought city tour bus tickets for our two days in NYC. I think that was one of the smartest thing we did. The tour buses were hop-on/hop-off and went all over downtown and uptown. Every bus had a tour guide that pointed out all the attractions and gave you fun facts. We only did downtown the first day. That included the Empire State Building (saw it didn't go in), Ground Zero, the docks, the UN (saw it didn't go in), and Rockefeller Center, plus a whole lot more. We were pretty beat by the end of the day.

Here's a shot of Brynna and me on the bus that first day. Note the oh so attractive yellow rain poncho. The rain and drizzle cleared out by the afternoon, but it never got very warm.

Here are Brynna and Daryl at the top of Rockefeller Center. One tour guide suggested going here instead of the Empire State building. It was cheaper, had no wait (instead of four hours of lines at the ESB), and you could actually see the ESB (which of course you can't see if you're standing on it). We were glad we did it, and it was one of the highlights of the trip.
We had dinner at TGI Fridays in the city. Not cool and New York, but familiar and comfortable. We made it back to my aunt and uncle's house around 11:00 or 12:00. Whew, if was a whirlwind!
The rest of the pics from our first day in NYC are up on Picasa.
