So I know Easter is long gone, but I decided that it's still okay to post about it because it really was way too early this year. :)
This was really the first year Brynna was aware of Easter and the things going on around her. She loved dying eggs with her auntie and uncle. We didn't hide any eggs this year. Brynna's the only kid in the family, and she wasn't real interested in hunting at the Sunday school egg hunt.
But in our family the real fun and tradition is something we call egg knocking. It's a Louisiana Cajun tradition. Have any of you ever heard of it? Basically you pick an Easter egg and tap the end against someone else's. Whose ever egg breaks first loses, and whose ever doesn't break wins. The competition goes on until all the eggs but one has been cracked. That egg is declared the "Last Egg Standing". The overall winner of the egg knocking competition is whose ever egg cracked the most other egg. Depending on the year, there may be other titles to win as well. This tradition has provided a few opportunities for pranks over the years. My dad used a wooden egg one year. Another year, we dye a "special" egg for Grandaddy that had not been boiled.
So anyway, egg knocking is a big deal in our family. The tradition has given our extended family may fun memories. This was Brynna's first year to take part. Grandaddy wanted to be the first to knock eggs with her. His egg won, and as she looked down at her now cracked egg, she dissolved into inconsolable tears. You can imagine how we all felt in that moment. So funny, so sad. What do you do?
Needless to say the egg knocking this year got toned way down. There were a few covert attempts between family members to knock eggs together, but if Brynna saw any knocking going on, the tears started flowing again. I guess she really got attached to those pretty eggs she dyed!
Next year I'll practice with her before the big day.
Here are a few of my favorite pics from this year.
This is my favorite.

The big moment.

thanks for the welcome.
i LOVE the Easter egg knocking tradition. i participated in it one year with a czech family and it was so fun. they used onion skins and string to dye and decorate the eggs (they were hard core!).
cody wasn't really into hunting eggs either. in fact, the only eggs in his basket were the ones cousin sarah put in there!
